At long last, we finally have our first actual teaser for Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening's new Netflix series Disenchantment. Set during Medieval times, the show marks the first non-Fox related endeavor for Groening, though it bears some of the distinct hallmarks of Futurama.
First off, the king is voiced by John DiMaggio, the voice of Bender, and the animation style itself is very similar—which makes sense considering it's being produced by the same animation house, Rough Draft Studios. Check out the official logline for the show...
(V)iewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.
When asked what the show is about, Groening has said, “Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.” Sounds like the perfect show for our current, woefully unfunny times.
Disenchantment debuts on Netflix August 17.
