NFL teams that are contemplating making a few tweaks to their rosters where given a gift in the form of Hurricane Sandy (as strange as it sounds it is true).
Thanks for the potential of destructive winds, heavy rain, flooding, and all sorts of other hazards the NFL closed its office in New York Monday and Tuesday. As a result, the league decided to bump the trade deadline back to today at 4 PM in order to accommodate teams that may be interested in making a move or two.
So far there has yet to be any serious talks about anyone, but that could very well be because the teams are keeping the info close to their figurative chests in order to keep the media from catching wind and tainting negotiations (not that the media ever would of course; perish the thought!).
There has been one trade; Jacksonville sent wide receiver Mike Thomas to the Detroit Lions for an undisclosed draft pick. Yea, that's it so far; a wide receiver from a team that is reception-deficient to a team that does nothing but pass.
It is not unusual for there not to be any trades involving major names or marquee players and for only players like the Mike Thomas's of the world to switch teams. That doesn't stop people from talking about the possibility. There have been a few guys that have been talked about as being on the trading block.
Only one superstar still in his prime (Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe) has been in discussions. A couple of stars that are likely beyond their prime (Rams running back Steven Jackson and Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams) have been talked about a lot as well.
I took the liberty of adding a couple guys that while it would be shocking I think both of their teams should consider moving them. Superstars they may be, but they just aren't getting the job done. Why not see what you can get for them before cutting them and letting someone else sign them for nothing?
To see who they are and to see who else could be moving teams before today's rapidly approaching deadline check out the gallery!
