Dash Transforms Your Smartphone Into a Complete Car Stereo System (VIDEO)

Over the years, smartphones have wormed their way into our lives, and now most people now find it hard to live without them. We use them to call people, read and send off emails, listen to music, or play games on the side when we're bored. And thanks to all the apps available in your respective device's app store (like the iTunes app store for the iPhone and the Android market for Android-powered devices), your smartphone's functionality and uses have been multiplied a thousandfold.

So imagine how convenient it would be if you could somehow find a way to integrate that device with your car stereo. Sure, there are accessories that let you connect your phone to your stereo, but what you can do is pretty limited. Navigating through your phone's different functions while you're driving isn't that easy either. This is probably why Paul Lizer's Dash Smartphone Car Stereo Project is gaining so much attention and traction, because it could finally be the solution to all your smartphone-car stereo woes.

The Dash is a two-component system that lets you hook up your smartphone into your car stereo. It isn't meant to be just an add-on to your existing car radio; rather, it's meant to replace the whole thing. Dash includes a Faceplate and the Body. The Faceplate is where your smartphone goes. What's available right now is a Faceplate for the iPhone, but different cases for Android and Windows Phone devices are currently in the works. The Body, which is where the Faceplate is attached on, is the part that's installed into you car. Despite its name, the Body is actually the brains of Dash, since it's the one providing the audio amplification and charging capabilities of the system.

Dash has already managed to raise close to $50,000 on Kickstarter, which is a few thousand bucks over the project's goal. If you're interested, you can still make a pledge until March 21st to support the project. A minimum pledge of $250 will get you one Dash with an iPhone 4/4S Faceplate.
