Facebook has weaved its way into the hearts of many and under the skin of many more. Jim Carrey is of the latter group. He is quitting Facebook and urges everyone else to do the same. The Russian Facebook advertisement scandal really chapped Jim’s ass and he’s ready to tap out. He believes that one person shouldn’t have so much power to influence an entire nation. Great point for a crazy Canadian to make but people that believe everything they read on the internet are already a lost cause. Zuckerberg’s main concerns are returns. He does not care about an election, fake news, or finding out if Jesus or some hot chick with huge tits could get more likes. Most people are addicted to social media the same way fat people are addicted to soda or smokers to cigarettes. Just because you want to kick the habit doesn’t mean everyone else will.

Jim Carrey's statement:

"We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms." Oversight specifically into how Russia was able to influence the US Presidential election via social media. "This easy access has to be more responsibly handled."

It's true that, when one person or company can buy a presence on a social media platform significant enough to influence the outcome of an election ... that is troubling.Carrey believes that he knows what the world needs: "What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed." In other words, people invest money in order to make money, but he's calling on people to invest their wealth in ways that will enrich the world rather than destroy it. "What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience."

Carrey wants rich people to do the right thing. That’ll never happen. Laws are literally the only thing publicly stopping the extremely wealthy from forming UFC matches using toddlers. Evil is inevitable and always afoot for anyone with enough money to own their own island. The next best option to influence the rich to do the right thing is government regulation. I’m not a fan of that either because they’re also rich people that make other people try to abide by their asinine ideas that they wouldn’t follow themselves. Capitalism having a conscience is contradictory. The idea of noblesse oblige is ideal but Jeff Bezos is already listening to you bang your wife in the bedroom with Alexa because that’s what billionaires do. Whatever the hell they want.
