GAMING

Dear whiny video game fans,
Why the hell are you so damn angry about every little thing video game developers do? They strive to make a game that the fans will enjoy and you just turn around and whine, and complain, and bitch, and moan about every little thing that you aren't 100% satisfied with.
No, but you're totally right. It's not like these guys spend years making these games or anything. They totally don't work hard either and it's not like they're making them for you or anything. Oh wait…they totally are! Call me crazy, but I just don't understand what could be so wrong with a game that you have to stand atop a mountain and let the entire world hear your cries.
These guys are just trying to do what they are passionate about. They're fans, just like you and I, and they do really try hard to make something they feel the gaming community will enjoy. Just look at Mass Effect 3…
Mass Effect is one of the biggest video game franchises of modern day gaming. Everyone loved the first two but when it came time to end the story…it was hell on Earth. The battle of fans vs. developers has finally died down and the developers fell in the end. Seeing a developer going back and changing a product just because people are whining about it was one of the lowest points I've seen in my writing career. You take the completely upside down mentality of modern day video game fans and mix it with the freedom of the internet and you have a recipe for destruction. Readers should also note the recent changes that Hitman: Absolution developers ‘IO Interactive' have been making to their level where Agent 47 takes out a group of deadly nuns. I get that it could offend some fans for religious reasons but come on…these are video games people! They're not meant to reflect real life ideals or beliefs. Don't want your kids to be playing this stuff? Read the ESRB and actually get some control over your kids.
Unfortunately, the internet does give everyone the ability to voice their own opinions and that means we will always have fans who feel the world needs to hear about how they hate the new Dante or how a certain game is a little too ‘mature' for them. It also means that sometimes privacy and confidentiality of ongoing projects will be compromised. Images of unfinished projects get leaked and the gaming community acts as though they're part of the finished products and do not meet their standards. This results in a virtual army of torches and pitchforks knocking on doors and demanding satisfaction.
Will any game ever appeal to every single fan? No. Will any game ever be a perfectly flawless masterpiece? No, but you know what? It doesn't frackin' matter because (say it with me) ‘they're just games'.
