The new Star Trek films follow the pattern of the old ones in that every other one is terrible. In the original cast movies it was the odd movies that were bad and the even ones that were good. With the new reboot it seems to be the evens that are ball crushingly terrible. So, if this continues to be true then Star Trek Beyond should be good. It is the first one not to be directed by JJ Abrams since he was off doing Star Wars. It is directed by Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin. That means there is going to be a lot of great action and possibly less lens flairs than in the past. It was written by Simon Pegg and even though he's a great comedic writer it is yet to be seen if he can handle something more serious.
What this trailer does continue to do is use anachronistic songs in it. The first trailer used the Beastie Boy's Sabotage and this one includes a new Rihanna track called Sledgehammer. When I first heard the title I thought she redid Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and got all excited. But no. Still, the movie could go either way. Either it is going to be truly badass or a giant turd.
