Does the world need another go at Charlie's Angels? Probably not, but this is the era where nostalgia is king, so what else is Hollywood to do but give us yet another version of something we didn't need another version of?
According to Variety, Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks is helming a new reboot of the franchise on the big screen, and doing double duty as Bosley. As for the Angels, she's cast Naomi Scott of the upcoming live action Aladdin, as well as British TV actress Ella Balinska, and Twilight star Kristen Stewart.
Now, the one thing I know about Charlie's Angels is that they're beautiful, lethal, and full of charisma. The one thing I know about Kristen Stewart is that she's completely and utterly devoid of anything even resembling charm or charisma. She's a decent actress and has proven that if you need someone to accurately portray that millennial malaise, she's got that act down pat.
I cannot even believe that she's following in the footsteps of Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, or even Lucy Liu. I fear this will be some sort of meta-commentary on the very notion of a rich guy keeping a harem of female assassins at his beck and call, which is unsurprising but almost thoroughly unwelcome.
Charlie's Angels is set to hit theaters on September 27, 2019.
