The best Australia ever had to offer the world was Steve Irwin and Margot Robbie. Mostly everything else that comes from that continent isn’t exactly anything to brag about. I.E. Iggy Azalea, Rebel Wilson, Katherine Knight, kangaroo and Komodo dragon being offered as available proteins at restaurants. You can’t expect excellence from a land overflowing with Fosters. Cardi B was invited to the Down Under because apparently there’s enough dimwitted Crocodile Dundee descendants down there to fill an entire stadium. But after Cardi crossed paths with an unruly paparazzi at the airport, she’s claiming she experienced racism.
The 26-year-old rapper arrived in Sydney on Saturday for a New Year's holiday gig and was greeted by a swarm of photographers. She was not in the mood for pictures or interviews, and covered her head in a blanket as she and her publicist, accompanied by a male associate pushing luggage, made their way through the terminal. The paparazzi were not happy and things soon turned ugly.
"You're in Sydney now, mate, you're in Australia," one of the photographers shouted at Cardi as the group followed them around the airport. "It's our rules, not yours, buddy. Our rules, not yours. Be clear on that. What's going on with the blanket, Cardi? You got an identity crisis or something? Give the fans a picture, Cardi."
"So as soon as I got here, you know, paparazzi's all in my face, and I get that, I understand that," Cardi said on Instagram Live on Sunday. "But what didn't sit well with me was this man telling me, 'You're in Australia now...you're playing by our rules'...It don't sit well with me when a white man tells me that s--t. Like, excuse me? Sir...you think this is the 1800s? Are you crazy? Like, do you think that people are still getting oppressed or something?"
"That s--t really left a bad taste in my mouth," she said, saying he seemed "super racist to her.
I think Cardi is confused. Once you’re a celebrity you’re pretty much public property. The “private person” ship sailed the minute she made a million dollars from lyrics like, and I quote, "Red bottom M.J. moonwalk on a bitch/Moonwalkin' through your clique/I'm moonwalkin' in the 6/Sticky with the kick, moonrocks in this bitch." I doubt that a man paid to pester celebrities can afford to risk his job by being racist. Because the paparazzi are only one step up from Walmart greeter on the employment difficulty totem pole. I don’t think this guy has a transferable set of skills that he can apply to elsewhere if he got canned. Either way Cardi B twerked happily ever after on stage at the concert later that evening.
