In case you haven't heard, Captain America: The Winter Soldier did pretty well at the box office in its opening weekend. And by pretty well I mean it was only the top-grossing April release of all-time.
The previous record belonged to 2011's Fast Five, which raked in $86.2 million in its opening weekend. Captain America 2 beat that by $10 million, raking in $96.2 million. When you add that to the $207.1 million the film has already earned internationally, right now this $175 million superhero flick is on pace to gross $700 million. And though I may not be an accountant, that seems like a pretty good profit to me.
Is Marvel Studios feeling pretty confident about Captain America 3? Yes, I'd say so. In fact, they're feeling so confident about it that today they announced that the finale of the Steve Rodgers trilogy will go head-to-head with Warner Brothers' Batman vs. Superman, or whatever they end up actually calling the sequel to Man of Steel.
So can Marvel's Captain America really stand up to DC's Batman and Superman at the box office? Well, circle May 6, 2016, on your calendar. We're going to find out.
