Brie Larson, the Disney employed super celebrity with at least one blockbuster franchise under her belt is currently at Cannes where she is a juror and was part of a press conference that ended up being hilarious, at least to me.
The star was asked if she would be watching the Johnny Depp Louis XV French film that is currently being screened at the festival.
The reason there's a minor level of controversy around the subject of Johnny Depp is basically because he was cancelled for many years for allegedly abusing his wife, but was exonerated when his team staged a highly publicized and televised so that YOU know it is real, defamation case against his ex wife Amber Heard which he won. Obviously.
Some people are still caught up in the fabricated drama, the whole Team Johnny vs Team Amber not realizing they are all on the same team, so there have been some protests at the festival about how they support alpha males in the industry who have a history of rape or abuse women in their spare time or on set.
I am not condoning abuse of women, I just think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and is a little ridiculous as a whole, there are better things to protest.
So Brie Larson, who was apparently a big voice in the TimesUp or MeToo movement, because everyone was, that is how it became a movement, was asked if she would see Depp's movie, and she didn't even understand the context, because she forgot she was an advocate, so passionate about the cause she pretended to be passionate about when it was convenient, trendy, or what her masters told her to do.
It makes for a pretty funny exchange and a reminder that celebs don't have opinions or personalities, they are just here to play pretend in exchange for LOTS of money!
Brie Larson was surprised to be asked about Johnny Depp's opening film: "You’re asking me that? I’m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation or why me specifically." https://t.co/5Ec2S23051 #Cannes pic.twitter.com/QPfO1Yb4qS
