Former NFL QB Boomer Esiason says that Tim Tebow brings nothing to the table but distractions and that the New York Jets should cut him now. Esiason, who went 15-27 as a starter in three years for the Jets, says that getting Tebow was a 'major mistake' and 'It's not in any way, shape, or form — I think — benefiting this team.' Ouch.
Boomer made the comments this morning on his New York radio show, Boomer & Carton. In Saturday's scrimmage, Tebow completed one of his four passes and ran three times for 14 yards.
Esiason is really laying the hate on Tebow, and maybe some of it technically makes sense, but it seems a little much to say things like 'He played some of the worst football that any quarterback has ever played in the history of the game last year at times.'
Ease up Esiason. Everyone knows that Tebow's stats aren't exactly legendary; like his career completion percentage of 47.3, but he won games. In Esiason's career, he had a record of 80-93 and had a career completion percentage of 57.0.
It just shows you how polarizing Tebow is. Maybe this rant would make more sense a game or three into the season, but a week into training camp? Take it down a notch, Boomer.
