Blake Lively has spent the last few years being super selective about her film roles, and this scarcity has led to a substantial boost in her reputation. I used to be terrified to hear she was headlining a movie, but after better than average work in flicks like The Shallows, All I See is You, and A Simple Favor, the notion of Blake Lively carrying a film isn't as laughable as it once seemed.
Her latest starring vehicle is the revenge flick The Rhythm Section, where she plays a woman whose family was killed in a plane crash she later discovers was a terrorist attack. Not content to simply let her husband and child be collateral damage, she teams up with the always dubious Jude Law to exact revenge on the terrorists who killed her family. It sounds a lot like about a half dozen other movies like that one with Jennifer Garner or that other one with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but who knows?
Probably the only black cloud hanging over this flick is the January release date. Were this coming out now, late September to mid October, it might sound a bit more intriguing a little less dicey. That January release date makes me think someone needs to balance their books before the start of the new fiscal year.
The Rhythm Section hits theaters on January 31, 2020.
