I don't know if the world really needed a Kingsman cinematic universe, but we're getting one regardless. Before the third film in the Kingsman film series proper, we're getting the prequel The King's Man in February. While the very concept of the film seems wholly unnecessary, especially in the face of a thoroughly mediocre follow-up to the fun first film, the fact that director Matthew Vaughn chose to cut the trailer to Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" makes it seem pretty awesome.
Ralph Fiennes plays the Duke of Oxford, who seems to be the big cheese over at the newly formed Kingsman agency, and who takes the young Conrad (Harris Dickinson) under his wing. Fiennes lays out all the backstory in this trailer, so if you watch this, you'll likely be bored during the first thirty minutes or so of the film as they reexplain everything you learned in the trailer.
Anywho, I'm glad that Matthew Vaughn has this to keep him occupied because they always float his name to direct another Marvel movie or a Star Wars movie, but he's better suited to nonsense like this. Vaughn works best when he's not grounded by any sort of rules or formula. Start working on your lady friend now because The King's Man opens on February 14.
