When it was first announced that Ben Affleck would play Batman in the upcoming Batman v Superman almost two years ago, the internet absolutely lost it's shit. After all, Gigli.
Since then the widespread public odium has dissipated a bit. People aren't exactly waiting with bated breath to see how Affleck portrays the Dark Knight, but some will at least concede that he might not suck entirely.
Now comes the news we all knew was coming: according to EW and Deadline, Ben Affleck is set to star in and direct a standalone Batman flick.
Oh, and he'll also co-write it with Geoff Johns, the highly regarded comics writer and chief creative director at DC Entertainment.
Sources say the events of the new Batman film will take place after the events of Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and the Justice League tentpole. Given that Justice League isn't scheduled to hit theaters until November of 2017, that means we're probably looking at a spring 2018 release date. And that in turn means Batman will probably bump some of the other Justice League spinoffs out of the way. (Sorry Flash and Aquaman.)
So Batfleck is going to be wearing the cape and cowl for a long time. Get used to it everybody.
