What a holy hell of a decade the 90s was. Will Smith’s outfits in Fresh Prince could be seen from freaking space, the Internet became a thing, sheep cloning… it had it all. And most of it was shit.

It was also the decade of huge, ball-busting video games like Resident Evil, Ocarina of Time, Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokémon. All industry icons, and none more so than that last one right there.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the ‘mon phenomenon, which spread far beyond video games. The cards, in particular, were the scourge of schools everywhere, and banned in many all over the world. Stories of little urchins shanking each other for a shiny Charizard card were too much for principals to deal with; there was a fair amount of paperwork and such to be done after the janitor mopped the brains off the cafeteria floor. Who can be assed with that? No-one, that's who.

Everyone knows the big ol’ red lizard was the ultimate for collectors. Even craptastic rappers know it. Feast your eyes on this for weirdness: MC Jme (nope, I’ve no idea either) offered a shiny gold disk version of his latest album to fans who sent him a Charizard card, and he got a whole damn lot of them.

He’s got them all framed in true super nerdly fashion, and they’re going on the wall in the studio to help him spit flames on his tracks. Apparently.
