So, yup. Call of Duty’s sitting there on the time out step, thinking about what it’s done. Much like Resident Evil, the franchise has taken a turn for the worse; just with generic futuristic spaceyness rather than Evil’s generic TPS style.
The Titanfall/Halo/Destiny type of FPS seems to be the way forward just now. It’s every-freaking-where. When the genre was new, we bitched that it was one great samey mass of World War Two-flavored brown, which it was for the most part. Now, it’s a great mass of gleaming chrome spaceship corridors. That’s progress for you, gents.
As we saw earlier this week, the first Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer drew a lot of hate for just that reason. It’s now the number 1 most disliked trailer ever on YouTube. So, y’know, there’s that.
It’s not all bad, though. Not for Battlefield 1, it isn’t. This one also dropped a reveal trailer recently, which recently became the most liked trailer on the ‘Tube. Over one million clicks of that happy lil’ thumb; we’re talking Bieber levels of fame.
Why did it do so well in comparison? Give it a watch and decide for yourself.
