Now that training camp is done, the preseason is over, and coaches and GMs are putting the final tweaks on their opening day rosters, fans can look forward to another great season of drives, dunks, soaring three-pointers, and sly steals from the best that the NBA has to offer. It all kicks off tonight with three games on the docket.
Like most seasons, some of the most watched players on the court will be the incoming rookies. Some will hold the hopes of a franchise in their large hands. Others will be one of the key building blocks for the future and some could be the piece a team was missing to become playoff material.
The best of the group will be crowned the Rookie of the Year at the end of the regular season. This season it doesn't take much analysis to see who the favorite is--the man with the most famous uni-brow in the land, Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Hornets. After a strong freshman season at Kentucky that resulted in a national championship and several Player of the Year honors he was an easy choice for the No. 1 pick in the '12 draft.
However, just because he was picked first does not mean he will be the best of the bunch (although that's what Hornets fans are hoping). What about one of Davis's former Kentucky teammates, Charlotte's Michael Kidd-Gilchrist? Portland's Damian Lillard has already made a name for himself after being named co-MVP of the Summer League.
