TV & FILM

It's been a decade since Arnold Schwarzenegger was the star of a movie. His little Expendables cameos notwithstanding, he hasn't had to carry a movie since before he started his political career in California but now, years later, you guessed it...He's back. He has a slew of big movies coming up in the next few years, apparently making up for lost time, but the first one out of the gate is The Last Stand. And it feels like the right type of movie a 65-year-old action star should be making. It looks simple but fun with more bullets being fired than Saving Private Ryan.
Ray Owens is sheriff of the quiet US border town of Sommerton Junction after leaving the LAPD following a bungled operation. Following his escape from the FBI, a notorious drug baron, his gang, and a hostage are heading toward Sommerton Junction where the police are preparing to make a last stand to intercept them before they cross the border. Owens is reluctant to become involved but ultimately joins in with the law enforcement efforts.
The Last Stand opens January 18th.
