Now that Nazis are in vogue again, pop culture is falling all over itself to deliver the next Nazi-themed film or television series. Oscar winner Jordan Peele is the latest big name to try his hand at the burgeoning sub-genre, with the new Amazon Prime original series Hunters, starring an especially haggard Al Pacino doing a Jewish accent straight out of a Borscht Belt comedy routine.
Set in late 70s New York City, the series centers on a group of people who hunt down and kill former Nazis living in the US. Little do they know, at first, that these rogue Nazis are secretly conspiring to build a Fourth Reich right within the borders of the United States. It's an intriguing concept for a series, particularly considering it's not that far off from reality at the moment.
Pacino certainly seems to have come through the wilderness and learned to harness his hamminess. Folks are raving about his performance in The Irishman and his more subdued work in a series of HBO biopics has helped to prove he's no longer the screaming unhinged maniac of the late 90s and early 2000s. Hopefully this continues that trend. Hunters is set to debut on Amazon Prime in the first half of 2020.
