If you're a regular Forensic Files watcher like myself, you might remember the episode about Henry Lee Lucas, a man who was arrested and convicted of killing his mother and 10 other people—including the unidentified woman known as "Orange Socks"—in a crime spree that ran from 1960 until the mid-80s. However, once arrested and sentenced, Lucas began confessing to more murders. A lot more. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 600.
A new Netflix documentary series titled The Confession Killer aims to shed some light on Lucas' claims, which the Texas criminal justice system says were highly exaggerated if not outright lies. However, as the trailer above shows, Lucas was able to provide police with detailed sketches and descriptions of many of these alleged 600 victims, casting doubt on the argument he was a voracious liar.
Netflix is doubling down on the true crime documentary genre of late and it's proved a boon not just for getting eyes on their content, but in getting people to talk about the docs after they've watched them. There's still ongoing debate over their series like Making a Murderer and The Keepers, and this looks to be another solid choice for an endlessly debatable series. The Confession Killer debuts on Netflix on December 6.
