Like The Force Awakens in 2015 and The Last Jedi in 2017, Lucasfilm unveiled the final trailer for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker during Monday Night Football, along with the announcement that tickets for the final film in the Skywalker saga are now on sale. I'm glad we've got a new trailer because I'm kinda sick of seeing the one they unveiled at D23 with footage from all nine movies. I think they've shown that before every single movie I've seen in the last month and a half.

This new trailer has plenty of surprising new footage, along with a dearth of plot details, which is pretty nice considering the day and age in which we live finds entire movies spoiled in the trailer. They hint at both a Rey and Kylo Ren battle in the middle of the ocean, as well as the pair teaming up to destroy what appears to be a statue. They also dangle the possibility that this will be the end for C3PO as well, which would be terribly sad.

All in all, it looks like a JJ Abrams movie, which is sure to split folks evenly on their levels of anticipation and/or dread. I think this looks pretty great and I have no doubt that Abrams will bring things to a satisfying and definitive conclusion. Or maybe he won't, and we'll all be pissed off for Christmas this year. The Rise of Skywalker tickets are on sale now for the film's release date on December 19!
