Gird Your Loins, Jared Leto’s Joker is Apparently Getting His Own Spin-Off Movie

Suicide Squad was a divisive film, but it seems as if both defenders and haters of the film are united in their loathing of Jared Leto's interpretation of The Joker. Everything about it was off from the overall look to the obnoxious riff Leto did on Heath Ledger's midwestern take on the voice, not to mention his story function made next to no sense, likely the victim of that film's chaotic post-production.

Nevertheless, Warner Brothers and DC still want to be in the Jared Leto business, driving them to the questionable decision of letting the actor headline his own film. According to Variety, there's a Joker film in development centered around Leto's Joker, separate from that Todd Phillips/Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie that's happening.

Variety's sources indicate that this will go hand in hand with the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel and the Birds of Prey film featuring Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn—who is neither a Bird of Prey, nor a hero. There's no writer or director attached, but god help those persons that will eventually sign to those positions. This is going to be no small task.

In fact, I'd lay solid money on the movie falling apart before it even goes into production. It's a thankless task for pretty much any name director to do, so this thing is either going to fold in on itself or they're going to get a cut-rate director and end up with something unwatchable.
