I gave up on Michael Bay's Transformers movies about an hour into the first one when I turned it off and said, "This isn't for me." Shockingly they were for a lot of people because they're just on the other side of their FOURTH SEQUEL with a spin-off about Bumblebee due in December.
If you gave up on the franchise around the same time I did, you'll be happy to know that it hasn't gotten any less stupid over the last decade as proven by Screen Junkies' latest Honest Trailer. Transformers: The Last Knight was the number one selection for their viewer request month and, I mean, I'm not surprised that people wanted them to do this, I'm just surprised that they had anything new to add.
And the truth is they don't really. This might be the laziest Honest Trailer they've ever done, and part of that is purposeful and played for laughs, but there's also a sense that they're as bored with doing these as Michael Bay is excited about making Transformers movies. There's schtick and then there's actual apathy weaponized for humor. This is much more of the latter than the former.
These movies have a sort of top-down rot where no one seems to be paying attention to any of the mythology they themselves created in the other films. It's almost worse than the predicament the Halloween franchise has found itself in. Michael Bay has directed every single one of these movies, and if he doesn't care about any sort of continuity, why should the rest of us? Mark Wahlberg as a Texan? Yeah, these movies suck.
