Over the years, video games have had all kinds of nutty-ass controllers and control methods. Back when the Wii was new, everyone was flailing the Wiimote around like drunken Williams sisters during Wii Tennis, unaware that a simple flick of the wrist motion was enough. And that's just the most obvious example.
Looking further back, we've seen the original Kinect, Sony's EyeToy, the double/touch screen voodoo of the DS, ROB the mothereffin' robot (a ‘controller' of sorts for the NES), all kinds of weirdery. I still can't quite fathom the decision to put a touch pad on the back of PS Vita, either.
But whatever home consoles and handhelds have done, they'll always be out-batshit by arcade games in my book. In Japanese Gameatoriums, there's an ass-spanking game ‘controlled' solely by a huge plastic ass, which says it all really. We're a little tamer here in the West, but this? This is awesome.
At CES 2016, gamers had the chance to sit inside a real car (a Dodge Challenger SRT) and drive it around a simulated environment. The action on the screen was controlled entirely by the car itself, a kind of Carception as badass as it is completely impractical and ridiculous. So, natch, I'm all kinds of on board with this.
