GAMING
chris-littlechild - January 8, 2016
2016, we've been told, is the year gaming boldy goes where it has never been before. Where it takes a giant leap for game-kind, and maybe a couple other paraphrased space-ish catchphrases too. For, Ego-friends, 2016 is the year of… VR.
VR is not to be confused with AR. AR is the cards you got free with the 3DS and PS Vita years back, which were a bit shit all told. With Virtual Reality gaming, though, there are possibilities actually worth paying attention to. I want to climb Mount Everest while comfortably feeling my ass grow on my couch, and I'll bet you do too.
If this sort of business is your bag, you've probably been paying close attention to PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, the second of which became available for pre-order yesterday. But it wasn't around for long.
The company made some announcements this week, including the Rift's pretty darn hefty price point: $599.99. With that, preorders were made live. An expensive and niche prospect it may be, but that didn't stop fans of all things techtastic getting right on it: all ‘day one' stock sold out in 14 minutes, according to VR Focus. For those early adopters, shipping is due in March.
For anyone else? You'll get another chance at claiming an Oculus Rift around about May 2016, apparently.
