You don't often see a sequel get a sequel before it has even been released in theaters. However, that's what we got yesterday from Bryan Singer and 20th Century Fox.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past not scheduled to hit theaters until May 23, 2014, yesterday Fox officially put the cart before the horse by confirming that X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

Of course, the news was first announced on social media, as per Hollywood's new standard operating procedure:

And of course, nobody is saying anything about X-Men: Apocalypse yet. Sure, we can all speculate that the film will center around 1990s comic supervillain Apocalypse—or even that Apocalypse factor into Days of Future Past—but for now Fox is just going to let our imaginations run wild. Then they'll probably string us along with little morsels of info here and there to build up the hype.

Interestingly, this X-Men announcement came rather suddenly on the same day that The Amazing Spider-Man 2was garnering attention with the release of its first full-length trailer. Coincidence, or was 20th Century Fox a little jealous of Sony?
