Look, I know everyone loves True Blood. It's well-written, well-acted, and there's tons of nudity. I get it. Unfortunately, that show just isn't for me. There's too much camp and too much relationship drama. I like my vampires a little more terrifying.
For that reason, I'm pretty pumped to hear that FX has ordered a 13-episode season of The Strain, which is the brain child of Guillermo del Toro. You see, The Strain isn't about pasty high school kids or horny bayou chicks. It's about a doctor who must race to contain the outbreak of a virus that causes vampirism before it anihilates humanity. And the vampires of The Strain aren't creatures you want to see getting busy. They are nightmarish beings that feed on victims through a retractable proboscis—like mosquitos.
Interestingly, del Toro first conceived The Strain as a television show. However, when he couldn't get anyone to bite on the idea, his agent suggested he partner with novelist Chuck Hogan and write a trilogy, and that's exactly what he did. After that, the regular novels became graphic novels. And now it's all turning back into a TV show.
There's no word yet on when the series will premier, but we do know del Toro, Hogan, and Carlton Cuse are executive producers, that Corey Stoll will star as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, and that it will probably be crazy good.
