I'm sure you've always been curious as to what would happen if you poured molten lava over a thick, slab of ice. Yes? No? Well, either way, you're about to find out.

If you didn't sleep through all your elementary Science lessons, then I'm sure you'll remember a couple of important things about lava. Aside from being molten hot material that's spewed from the center of the earth's searing hot core, it eventually solidifies into rock after it's allowed to cool naturally. You know, after the volcano has erupted and the lava has been spewed out all over the place.

It's impossible to get natural hot lava (want to try?) so the folks over at Syracuse University decided to mix up their own homemade lava to use in their experiment. Without further ado, check out the video above to see what happens!

Obviously, the lava was 'shock-cooled' the moment it came into contact with the ice. Steam aside, the lava looks like ultra-hot cheese on top of a pale slice of pizza. Pretty awesome stuff, right? The lava cools even further into some sort of tar-like black substance. Now this stuff--not exactly awesome.
