By now football fans everywhere have heard about the sad plight of Chad Johnson. The former star of the Cincinnati Bengals had been trying to revive his career with Miami Dolphins, but was cut after an episode of domestic violence where he allegedly head-butted his wife. That, along with his inability to grasp the offense led to him being cut and his career now in limbo (if not over).
What most of us don't know about the man formerly known as Ochocinco, is that this is not the first time he's been in trouble with the law over domestic violence. TMZ broke the story that In 2000 (while still in college) he plead no contest to a domestic battery charge and was sentenced to community service, probation, and counseling.
Due to the high profile of both Johnson and his soon to be ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada, a very serious issue has taken center stage. Stories litter the news wire every season of cases involving pro athletes and domestic violence. To combat the issue, several prominent sports figures such as New York Giants QB Eli Manning and Houston Rockets guard Jeremy Lin have teamed up with President Obama and Vice-President Biden on a public service announcement that every man should pay attention to.
