Does Arma II ring a bell for anyone? For those who are unaware, Arma II is an online MMO that takes place in the fictional worn torn, post-soviet country of Chernarus. Developed by Bohemia Interactive, Arma II attempts to create a 100% realistic game that really brings to light the reality of war. While it's definitely a cool idea, it took a while to really start catching on and only entered the mainstream when a surprising zombie themed mod made a huge splash on the gaming community.
DayZ has been all over the news the past couple months. Taking the realism of a war simulator and putting it into the highly popular world of zombies was, apparently, the ingredients for the perfect game. DayZ is taking the zombie survival genre and kicking it square in the ass by giving players a look at just how hard a post apocalyptic, zombie filled world really is to survive in with a current average life expectancy sitting at 49 minutes on the DayZ official site.
So what makes this mod so overly awesome? Well there's the massive 225km landscape that you can travel, the realism of the undead, the dangers that await around every corner as you battle both the dead AND the corrupted living. Not enough? Try it yourself, I guarantee you won't regret it. No, it's not packed to the brim like a Micheal Bay movie but it's a really enjoyable experience.
According to DayZ developer 'RocketWiki', DayZ has just been given the green light to become it's own game. This means we'll be seeing a bigger budget, which will inevitably mean vast improvements and much more girth than seen in the Arma II mod.
That's right, this is actually happening - DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago. -RocketWiki, DayZ (Project Leader)
It would be nice to see DayZ come to life on other consoles instead of just PC, God knows the entire gaming community really needs to experience this one.
