This was supposed to be the big test for Team USA Basketball; going up against the team they beat in the gold medal game in 2008, loaded with NBA players. Yeah, it didn't work out that way.
Carmelo Anthony led the way for the USA squad with 27 points, as they handled Spain easily 100-78. So what should we take away from this? Essentially nothing probably. It didn't mean anything, there was no revenge factor, it was just a glorified scrimmage. And you can bet the players on both sides were thinking the same thing - let's get out of here injury free and get to the Olympics.
Most likely we'll see these two meet again when it matters most. Spain's roster includes Marc and Pau Gasol, Serge Ibaka andRudy Fernandez. They're loaded with talent. It's almost like an NBA All-Star game when these two teams meet, only their split into USA and International teams.
The USA gets going for real against France and Tony Parker on Sunday.
