Roger Federer Wins Wimbledon, Again

Well, another year gone and another year without a British champion for the Wimbledon crowd. But this year they were oh so close. Andy Murray put in an astonishing performance that saw him break Roger Federer's first service game before taking the first set.

British fans from around the country began to dream. Murray had never won a set in any of his previous Grand Slam final attempts and it looked like this could finally be the time when he would be able to remain focused and lift a crown. But it wasn't to be.

The 30-year-old Federer defied his age to lift his performance and began to dictate the rhythm of the game, winning the second set 7-5. As the third set began, the Swiss genius looked at his imperious best and a rain delay to close the centre court roof was the perfect remedy for Murray to recompose himself.

Federer however wasn't to be defeated. Once the match was restarted he didn't even give the Scot a sniff of a chance of victory and comfortably ran out the final two sets with 6-3 and 6-4 results, to take the championship in four, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Roger is now back at the number 1 spot in the Tennis rankings and in doing so overtakes Pete Sampras' record of 256 weeks as the best in the world. This was his 17th grand slam title and Tennis critics have now officially declared him the greatest player to grace a court.

For Murray, there's always next year.
