Roger Federer Reaches His 8th Wimbledon Final

Many people believed that Roger Federer was finished. It was now common knowledge that Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were the new kings of the tennis court and that if anyone was going to threaten them it would be Scotland's Andy Murray.

But on a wet and windy Friday afternoon in South London, underneath the protective cover of the Centre Court's roof, the Swiss legend proved everybody wrong with a scintillating performance defeating the world number one, Djokovic, in four sets to reach a record 8th Wimbledon final.

He beat the tournament favourite 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in only two hours and 19 minutes to end a dominant spell from the Serbian over the last half a dozen grand slams.

Despite being on the precipice of his 31st birthday, the ageless Federer glided across the court and forced Djokovic into 24 unforced errors, whilst only committing 3 himself.

This will be his first Gram Slam final since last year's French Open and his first at Wimbledon since 2009, when he won his sixth title.

On Sunday he will now face either Andy Murray or Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and with these two players having never featured in a final on the grass court before, it's hard to look past the old master as he looks to equal William Renshaw and Pete Sampras's record of seven Wimbledon titles.
