Barry Bonds Coming Back to the San Francisco Giants?

Maybe Barry Bonds is getting a little nervous that Alex Rodriguez might be able to catch his home run record or maybe (and more likely) that Albert Pujols will. If he were to make a comeback he wouldn't be the oldest player in baseball; it is possible…

But not going to happen. The career home run and single season king is not thinking about stepping up to the plate again. He's thinking of helping teach others how to do it.

Bonds told reporters at a ball game the other day that he has spoken with team president Larry Baer about coming back to the club in some capacity. He did not allude to becoming a manager or coach for the MLB club or any of its minor league affiliates. Instead he talked about being more of a traveling instructor for the big league guys or the minors.

The idea has some merit; imagine Barry Bonds as the ‘batting whisperer.' He would travel to wherever the team wants him in order to give special one on one instruction to a player that is in need of that kind of help.

Regardless of what you think of Barry Bonds as a man, he was one heck of a baseball player. The steroids may have helped him hit a few more home runs out of the park, but he still had to connect with them. Last I checked ‘roids doesn't do much for your hand-eye coordination.

He could excel at this. I can't think of a better person that could do this for the team. Heck, if the Giants were smart they would package the concept and sell it to ESPN or Fox Sports as a reality show.

It would sure beat the heck out of most of the crap on TV these days.

(What would a Barry Bonds post be without a clip of the man doing what he does best?)
