Do you ever feel like the video game industry is taking a pretty sharp turn towards the future with it's family oriented games and virtual reality concepts? Do you miss the days of A, B and a 4-way control pad? It looks like 8BitMMO might just be for you.

The simply titled, 8BitMMO, is exactly that; a retro sandbox MMO that will take you back to a time when life was simpler and we had the time to sit around the NES in our underwear for a week.

According to the announcement, players will be able to create entire cities block by block, either solo or with up to 250 friends, while also battling friends and a strange variety of bizarre enemies alike, including LawyerCats...let that sink in. Players's creations are also protected with ability to lock all friends out of editing your structures. You don't like my tacky pink house? Too bad!

The best way to really describe the game is as an 8-bit Minecraft clone. I have to say, it does look interesting though. Players have the ability to build anything they want, but the key to success is the power of your own imagination.

"I am amazed with the creations players are coming up with," ... "People are creating some genuinely cool architecture - everything from towering windmills to sports arenas. One player even made a huge statue of a flying dragon. The community is very inventive, and I can't wait to see what they'll come up with next!" -Robby Zinchak (Archive Entertainment)

The game is now available to play with updates being added periodically as it takes off on it's maiden voyage across the world wide web. The game is free to play and can be accessed right over...here.

To be honest, it does look pretty cool and if this works, it could be another piece of evidence to show big game developers that they don't necessarily have to spend 40 to 100 million dollars just to put out something people will enjoy.
