GAMING

There’s no stranger company in gamedom than Nintendo. These mad bastards do whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want, regardless of consumer trends and the status quo and all that sort of stuff. Their nutty innovations have shaped the industry; everything from d-pads to touch screens and motion controls have come from these guys.
And that’s the contradiction. Much as they love busting out futuristic new weirdness like the Virtual Boy, they’re also up to their ‘nads in all things retro. They know what fans follow them for, their first party titles and IPs, and they’ll keep churning them out. Again and again. Forever.
The Marios and Zeldas of the world cannot and will not be stopped. Whether we’re talking new games or constant damn re-releases of old ones, they’re here to stay. Today, we’re talking old ones, because nostalgia is a damn powerful thing.
Case in point: take an ogle at that Japan-exclusive new model of the New 3DS above. It looks almost nothing like the SNES as released in the US, true enough, and I was more of a Genesis guy back in the day, but man does this bring back memories. This model was just revealed over Japan way yesterday, along with the news that SNES games are hitting the system’s Virtual Console (worldwide, this time).
