I like Ricky Gervais' shows even though I think he's kind of an obnoxious a-hole. Have you ever seen the shows he does with his bald idiot friend Karl Pilkington? That is comedy magic. But of course his most famous creation is The Office. It started as a British TV show in which he played the moronic office manager David Brent. The show went on to be wildly successful and have an equally lauded American remake starring Steve Carrell. But there is something about the David Brent character that really sets him apart. Unlike Carrell's Michael Scott who is a lovable idiot, Brent is truly a vile person. It probably has something to do with Carrell being super nice in real life and Gervais being kind of a jerk. But I guess it's worked for him. He has more money then I'll ever have being a tool, so maybe he knows something I don't.
He's resurrected the David Brent persona for his new Netlfix show David Brent: Life on the Road. In it the titular hero goes on tour with his band and wackiness ensues. It looks pretty damn hilarious.
