GAMING

If you’re a decrepit old bastard of a gamer like me, you’ll have fond memories of a simpler time. A time when Pong was considered foul-your-undercrackers amazing; when good ol’ arcades were still a thing. When handheld consoles were still considered ‘portable,’ even though they were the size of a goddamn studio apartment (I’m looking at you, chunky-ass Game Gear). Ah, nostalgia.
So many memories. Pretty damn bittersweet they are too. Remember when Resident Evil knew what the hell survival horror actually meant, and didn’t suck monkey nuts? Remember video game manuals, how awesome they were? Before the tree-huggers started objecting to the whole printing-on-paper thing, reducing us to a lil’ leaflet inside the game box or an e-manual? Well (chew on this for a segue), here’s a story about both of those things.
By now, you’ve probably had an ogle at the Resident Evil 7 footage that came out of E3. The demo wasn’t part of the final game itself, just something the team put together to kinda show the direction the final release will be going in. Reactions ran the gamut from positivity to bitching, as is always the case with the Internet, but it was definitely an intriguing little showcase, Silent Hills style. It was also rammed with secrets and such.
Said secrets have all been gathered in a NES-style manual, by long-time Evil fan WheresBarry.
‘The manual covers everything from the demo's story and characters to the locations of the mysterious ghost girl,’ GameSpot reports. ‘There's a detailed map of the entire house, a breakdown of every item, and a guide to all the endings. WheresBarry even added a list of theories, some of which have been pushed and researched by the community to a surprising extent.’
