Now, I’m a fan of all things creeptastic. Horror movies, horror games, horror stories, it’s all a good time by me. Give me a slice of otherworldy weirdery from Edgar Allan Poe or H.P Lovecraft and I’m a happy camper. Lumpen alien beings with ten scrotes from another dimension? Yes please.

That said, though, there’s something about Halloween that doesn’t sit right with me. Probably the fact that the day’s been taken over by teen goths on Facebook, posting images of themselves and their buddies being like, totes edgy with their Ouija boards and such. If Bloody Mary really does materialize out of your mirror and rip your eyeballs out of their sockets, kids, don’t come crying to me. Not that you could, being sans eyes and all.

But anywho, enough of me griping like the cynical old bastard I am. You’ve got to accentuate the positive, as that craptacular old song says. There’s one thing Halloween does do right: add extra content to the most popular video games. Here comes the spangly new Xbox One exclusive Gears of War 4, with its first seasonal update.

As The Coalition report, the first special event for the title is Pumpkin Ball. This is a special take on dodgeball, which sees respawn times reduced to one second and repawn protection reduced. It sounds like a shitstorm whichever way you slice it, and it takes place across five of the game’s darkest maps: Forge, Lift, Impact, Fallout and Harbor.

As well as that, Pumpkin Heads make their brilliantly ridiculous-looking return, and the Halloween Elite Pack is available in the store now. If that sounds like something you want to get on board with, hit the official site for more on the event.
