Stephen King fans have been waiting for the better part of forever for a film adaptation of his Dark Tower saga, and in a little over a month, we're finally going to see The Gunslinger come to life on the big screen. In a pretty perfect bit of casting, Idris Elba is bringing the character of Roland Deschain to life and this new featurette explores the character's legacy as he makes the trip from the page to the screen.
Speaking of Stephen King, he's all over this featurette, dropping little bits of information about the character and more or less rolling out the welcome mat for newcomers to the series. At this point, I think he's hoping that the film will serve as a two hour commercial to entice people to read the books, because I don't know how they're going to fit even half of the first book into a single movie. Then again, this is Sony's stab at creating a cinematic universe, so there probably won't be much more than half a book in this flick.
Fans of the source material and non-fans alike are sure to get their appetites whetted by this new featurette. It sure does make me excited for the film to open on August 4.
