3D Printer Chef: Now You Can Print Your Cake–And Eat It, Too!

Humanity is finally getting closer to inventing something that resembles Star Trek's Replicators. Okay, so it won't exactly be able to replicate stuff around you, but it can print virtually anything you want it to, from 3D sculptures to actual food.

That's right, you heard me. This Imagine 3D Printer by Essential Dynamics can actually print food, provided you feed it in its blended form. In short, you'll have to mush your ingredients up before you can have the printer chuck out an elaborately-decorated dish.

The reason why this 3D printer can print food while others can't is because it uses syringes instead of hot plastic extrusion pieces. It actually comes with a 9-in by 9-in printing tray, so you're not limited to bite-sized pieces of your favorite hors d'oeuvres.

Mashed potatoes? Shrimp noodles? Boob-shaped tarts? Butt-cheek burgers? The possibilities are endless. But the thing is, who would want to eat mush in the first place? Personally, I don't care what my steak looks like, as long as it's whole and medium well. But food artists (yes, there is such a thing) might find this printer to be more useful.

Check out the video above the see the Imagine 3D in action and weigh in.
