I can’t picture Alabama being linked to anything more profound than college football. I’m pretty sure a good portion of that state still washes their clothes in primitive tin tubs with hand washers down near the water hole or fresh water well. But allegedly that place has medical professionals and one of them took care of the former guitarist for 3 Doors Down. Physician Dr. Richard Snellgrove was acquitted after being accused of supplying celebrity Matthew Roberts with enough pills to make his problems, and life, end permanently. Anything more than three Xannies at a time tends to be kryptonite for any guitarist who believes that they are a superman.

Jurors acquitted an Alabama physician accused of prescribing drugs that killed a former guitarist for rock band 3 Doors Down. The not guilty verdict was returned Monday in the case of Dr. Richard Snellgrove, court documents show. Snellgrove had been indicted on 13 counts of unlawful distribution of drugs and health care fraud tied to the 2016 death of Matthew Roberts.

Prosecutors said Snellgrove prescribed drugs to Roberts even though he knew Roberts struggled with addiction. Snellgrove’s lawyer, Dennis Knizley, said the physician’s actions were reasonable and prosecutors targeted Snellgrove because Roberts was famous.

Sex, drugs, and alternative rock. Is there really any other way to live life? Matthew may have been an addict but at least he made more of himself than being just another junkie in his mother’s basement. He was on TV. Sometimes you come out on the other side of a bender a new person. Sometimes you die. The takeaway here is we have one dead guitarist whose song will probably encourage you to purchase a past season Guy Fieri-type shirt as it blares in the background of your local Ross. Some people who have passed on to the great beyond wish they still had that kind of pull after they’ve left Earth for good.
