As we saw from last time's eBay bastardry, the fancy new special edition PS4 is a big deal. Decked out in its Ye Olde nineties paint job, it's quite the collector's item for PlayStation fans.
Only 12,300 of these bad boys were made. 12,299 were swiftly commandeered and wanged onto eBay by dickish scalpers, naturally. The remaining system, the very first produced, was retained by Sony for a special little slice of PRtacular.
The 20th Anniversary PS4 that bore the serial number 00001/12300 was offered on Yahoo! Auctions. The proceeds were donated to Save The Children Japan, and Sony will match the final total. It all adds up to a double whammy of sweet, sweet charity-donatin' goodtimes, and that's not something to bitch about.
The bidding closed yesterday, with the console raising 15,135,000 yen. At one point, there was a prank bid for 9 trillion, which was swiftly deleted. But still, the final price adds up to just shy of $130,000. Quite a sum, but it's all for a good cause. Rich-ass owner of PS4 number 00001, we salute you.
Match away, Sony, match away.
