Lately, the only original films coming out of Hollywood were animated. Frozen,Despicable Me,Up, Wreck-It Ralph, Brave, How to Train Your Dragon—the one thing all these films had in common was that none of them were remakes or reboots of previously existing films and television shows.
Apparently Warner Brothers thinks it's time to put an end to this trend, though, because they're developing a new animated Flinstones movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay will executive produce, while Chris Henchy—with whom they worked on The Other Guys and The Campaign—is writing the script. There's no word yet on whether Ferrell will also lend his voice to the film but, financially speaking, not doing so would be pretty stupid. You put Will Ferrell's name on the poster along with a few other big ones—Kristin Wiig as Wilma, anybody?—and you're basically printing your own money.
Of course, this isn't the first effort at reviving the 1960s animated sitcom in recent years. Two years ago Fox and Seth McFarlane talked about bringing the show back to TV, but that project fizzled.
I have a feeling this new attempt is probably going to pan out.
