It doesn't mean much in the big picture, but it still has to be kind of nice for Manny Pacquiao and his fans to hear.
The WBO, the sanctioning body whose welterweight title Pacquiao lost in a controversial decision to Timothy Bradley, has completed its investigation into the fight in question. It agrees with the sentiment that most analysts, fans, and reporters have put forth in the days since the fight--Pacquiao was robbed.
Sadly, this does not mean anything. The WBO can't make Bradley give up the belt, and it can't overturn the decision. In cases like this it would not be a surprise for the belt to be vacated pending a rematch, but don't count on it. Bradley has made it clear that he feels like he won the fight.
So what does this mean? What was the point in all this if the WBO couldn't correct this injustice?
The meaning and point of it all is real simple. The only thing the WBO can do is authorize a rematch; something that was already a foregone conclusion. Bradley started promoting it the day of the fight and Pacquiao has not hidden his desire to set the record straight either.
The only thing that was really accomplished is that we kept giving the fight coverage which will only help sell pay-per-view packages to the rematch. Just like everything else in the world folks, its all about the money.
