Advanced word on the street has it that next month's Alita: Battle Angel is actually a pretty good movie with lots of visual effects splendor on display. This isn't totally surprising considering it comes to us from producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez who are—as this new featurette points out—two visionaries.

Once upon a time, Cameron was going to direct this Manga adaptation himself, but he's balls deep in Avatar sequels that no one asked for, so he handed over the reigns to Rodriguez (Sin City). The two sit down to discuss the story and the technological advances used to push the boundaries of storytelling.

The film's got a pretty damn good cast as well, with Oscar winners Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Mahershala Ali on hand to add some gravitas to the flick. At worst, I feel like this will be another Valerian, which wasn't that bad either, all things considered.

If you get a chance to see Alita: Battle Angel in 3D or IMAX or some other premium format, you're much more likely to appreciate the film that Rodriguez and Cameron have crafted. The film opens in theaters across North America on Valentine's Day.
