Way back when The Last Jedi was in production, there were rumors that Tom Hardy had shot a cameo in which he played a stormtrooper who recognizes Finn. Unfortunately, the scene didn't appear in the film, but the rumors were true as this new deleted scene shows. It's unconfirmed if the further rumor about two of the other troopers in the lift being played by Prince William and Prince Harry, but this certainly seems like the most likely place for them to have turned up.
Of course, having all seen The Last Jedi, I think we can comfortably state that the film is better without this scene as it prolongs the already interminable adventures of Finn and Rose. However, the spirit behind the scene is very much in keeping with the new jokey-joke style of the sequel trilogy. It's not everyone's cup of tea, for sure, but watching it removed from the film, it's a fun little scene that could've added some much needed levity to their entire arc.
It's safe to assume that this will be among the twenty minutes of deleted scenes promised on the Blu-ray release later this month, so consider this a sneak preview. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available starting today on Digital HD and two weeks from today on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray.
