Since exploding onto the scene two years ago, Timothée Chalamet has quickly become one of the most in-demand actors of his generation. His next project is the Netflix original flick The King, a mishmash of story beats from Shakespeare's histories Henry IV: Parts I & II and Henry V, and they assembled quite an ensemble around the young star, including Robert Pattinson sporting a ridiculous accent and equally comical wig.
I'm not sure what it is about a wig that empowers an actor. So many of our great actors turn into world class hams once they slap on a wig. It's a dangerous tool in an actor's bag of tricks and can often lead to some world class overacting. I have no doubt, based solely on his two lines of dialogue in this trailer, that Pattinson is fast becoming our most eccentric actor, another Christopher Walken in the making.
It's nice that I don't have to leave my house to see this one, especially since my boo Ben Mendelsohn is in this, sporting another fantastically ornate wig. There's not a chance I'd pay to see a bunch of good actors grunt and mumble their way through an overblown historical epic, but if all I've gotta do is flip on Netflix, I'm sold. The King arrives on Netflix one week from today, on November 1.
