Tim Tebow gave an EXCLUSIVE! (their caps) to the New York Daily News and reporter Manish Mehta asked Timmy about the Sports Illustrated poll of 180 current NFL players that came out that showing he was voted the most overrated player in the league. Tebow's answer was predictably Tebow-ish.
Oh, really? No, I didn't see it. Yeah, it's really fine. It's both sides, because they also voted me in the Top 100 (Players on NFL Network), too.
Tebow doesn't care about polls, he's just trying to get better. He's a team guy. But some of his answers were a little bit curious when he was talking about his role with the team as the backup to Mark Sanchez. The NYDN asked Tebow about his 'impact' on Sanchez:
I feel like one of the reasons they brought me here was to help make him better.
Maybe. Or maybe it was just to say, 'hey Mark, get your shit together because look at what happened in Denver last season.' Then the Jets realized they probably weren't going to go anywhere with Tebow behind center, so they've been justifying signing him by having him play tight end, running QB, and punt protector. The punt thing is actually working; they've converted 3-3 on fakes.
Tim says being a backup again is giving him a chance to improve, and it almost sounds like he knows something that the rest of the public doesn't about his future, check out the last line:
I'm working on a lot of things and feeling like I'm getting better. Looking forward to one day being able to show some of those things... You never know for me. My role, it could expand.
Or maybe it won't. Rex Ryan keeps saying it might, and then it doesn't. Sanchez had a pretty decent game in that loss to the Patriots, so it's hard for the fans to say he shouldn't keep the starting job...this week. If the Jets lose to the Dolphins on Sunday, that could change quickly.
