I'm not sure why Marvel can't figure out what to do with Thor. He's a big dumb hunk that smashes things with a hammer, how do you mess that up? Twice!
Thankfully this helped lower everyone's expectations for Thor's third big screen adventure, Ragnarok, and they made a lot of smart moves. For example, they hired a lady—Cate Blanchett—to be the bad guy, which means Thor won't be allowed to punch her. Touché, Marvel.
This first teaser trailer, as well as the film's first official poster (below), confirm what we've heard about this film all along. It's going to be a hell of a lot of fun. I'm also not surprised that Marvel's marketing team wants you to remind you of Guardians of the Galaxy, because this flick looks closer in tone to that than the other Thor movies. Plus they know that no one really even likes the other Thor movies, so why bring them up?
My favorite thing about the trailer isn't Cate Blanchett smashing Mjölnir, though that was cool. Nor was it Thor's ecstatic reaction to seeing Hulk, though that was also very cool. No, it's seeing Jeff Goldblum back where he belongs, in outer space...
Tell me he's not right at home. Gigantic shoulder pads, frosted hair, and guyliner? He's in heaven. "Ah, ah, I've, ah, decided that my character needs a, ah, silver soul patch." Thor: Ragnarok hits North American theaters on November 3.
